The only energy council of its kind, the PROPANE EDUCATION & RESEARCH COUNCIL (PERC),a Washington, DC based organization, works with the propane industry, consumers, and partner industries to increase the adoption of propane as a clean, domestic, and affordable energy source. 

PERC has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Safety and Compliance. This exempt position reports to the Vice President of Education, Safety and Compliance and could be based out of a home office for the right candidate with proven ability to be self-motivated and directed.

Job Summary:
The Director provides tactical leadership for PERC’s safety and compliance programs and is responsible for the innovation, governance and management necessary to identify, evaluate, develop and monitor the effectiveness of these programs.

 The Director engages industry stakeholders and provides leadership in creating and managing world-class safety and compliance programs for the propane industry and is involved in researching industry regulations, codes, standards and best practices for PERC’s educational, training and regulatory programs, providing subject matter expertise on industry safety and compliance matters.  

The Director works with PERC staff to ensure that PERC programs and materials properly reflect industry safety and compliance standards and interacts with the National Propane Gas Association’s codes, standards and regulatory staff, ensuring industry coordination on safety and compliance issues. 

The Director is responsible for the implementation of tools and processes that evaluate safety and regulatory programs while analyzing PERC’s investments in risk management, safety and compliance programs and/or technology.  A key responsibility of this position is effective interaction with industry stakeholders, the ability to provide a consultative platform for industry safety and compliance issues and actively participating in industry organizations and committees related to safety, compliance and training; makes presentations at industry events.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Requirements:

  • Eight to ten years minimum experience in a safety function; propane, natural gas or transportation industry highly preferred (associate safety, distribution, logistics and DOT/OSHA/NFPA regulatory compliance).
  • Five to seven years minimum managerial experience.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA and DOT regulations that pertain to propane operations.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal DOT safety and employment regulations.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to act as a SME on industry related safety and compliance issues.
  • Proven skills in planning and development of organizational needs.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Transportation/Logistics, Business or related field preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, Qualification, or Standards:
Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) highly preferred.

Working Conditions:
Office Work Environment (76%-100%).

Travel (up to 25%)
