Director of Safety & Risk Management

The Martz Group, a leader in motor coach transportation, is currently accepting applications for the position of Director of Safety and Risk Management.  The Martz Group is family owned and operated, and has been in the motor coach industry for over 112 years.

The Director of Safety and Risk Management is based at the corporate office in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  Wilkes-Barre is located in a great location in Northeastern Pennsylvania within close proximity to New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Scranton, PA.

The Director is responsible for the Safety and Risk Management programs for all of the Martz locations.

Essential responsibilities include:

Develops, coordinates, and implements safety, regulatory compliance, and occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations for the Martz Group.  The Director develops and conducts training, plans, directs, and implements organization safety programs to ensure a safe and accident-free work environment to include safe driving techniques.  The Director oversees the organizations complete worker’s compensation program, claims management, general liability and risk management, Department of Transportation requirements, and Occupational Safety and Health programs assessing and identifying risks that could impede the safety, security, or financial success of the organization.

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and implement safety and risk management programs that support the strategic plan
  • Conduct regular meetings to maintain focus risk and claims management to reduce cost liability

Team Leadership and Development  

  • Build a safety first culture of engagement and accountability, cascading vision, and goal alignment 
  • Develop and maintain a highly professional work environment and culture; develop and train staff in progressive safety and business practices
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Safety Managers
  • Champion the effective use of change management principles, strategies and techniques to plan, implement and evaluate change

In order to be considered, candidates must meet the minimum following requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required; or bachelor’s degree in any field with at least ten (10) years of experience in Occupational Safety
  •  Master’s degree preferred with relevant safety experience

 

Job Experience

  • At least seven (7) years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment required with proven career progression to a director or executive level 
  • Must have leadership experience
  • Experience with DOT regulations highly preferred

 

Additional Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to conduct training
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Thorough understanding of policies and best practices of risk management
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  •  Ability to travel to all Martz locations as required
