EHS Manager

The Environment, Health, Safety (EHS) Manager will be a partner for the implementation of the EHS Management System at multiple production sites across the Business Group.  The Group includes production sites located predominantly in the United States with one location in Europe.  The successful leader will implement the system and related programs both directly at the site level and through an organizational matrix structure including site coordinators and corporate resources.   This position must be an effective liaison and influencer with senior leadership, corporate EHS and site level customers (both operations and EHS customers). This position will report directly to the corporate Vice President, but will maintain a strong customer relationship with business and operations leadership.

Key responsibilities for this role are as follows:

  • Develop and maintain effective networks at the site level necessary to implement all elements of the EHS management system.  The effective network will include both site EHS and operations team, as well as external resources and/or corporate resources where necessary
  • Develop safety training, procedure development and safety promotion at the site level
  • Participate in safety audits/reviews, routine safety inspections and incident investigations, while developing effective corrective actions
  • Maintain a liaison and adviser role with senior leadership.  The ability to balance a customer service role and governance role is a critical aspect of this responsibility
  • Mentor, coach, support and develop site EHS resources to ensure effective performance for tasks and responsibilities within the capabilities of the site team members
  • Hands-on site support and service for tasks and responsibilities that are outside the capabilities or experience of site personnel
  • Not a consultant/auditor role, a hands-on resource accountable for site-level EHS performance through the application of leadership skills, systems principles and technical expertise
  • Collaboration with the EHS Leadership Council in the development and continuous improvement of the management system, corporate services and corporate tools
  • Participate and/or lead the Safety Counsel to build a progressive safety culture within the business focused on training, personal responsibility, teamwork and a high level of communication at all levels of the organization
     

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years industrial health and safety experience, including a minimum of 3 years at the senior role, in a diverse multi-site manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in health and safety disciplines or related disciplines.  An environmental science or engineering degree with significant experience in the health and safety disciplines is acceptable academic qualifications.
  • Preferred: Advanced degree in health and safety disciplines or environmental
  • Preferred: Significant experience in a management system environment and prefer PDCA, six sigma, TQM, etc. experience over ISO certification experience
