Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

NJR Midstream, a division of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Manager Environmental Health & Safety to lead the environmental, health, safety and wellness efforts for NJR’s Midstream Operations. Develop strategic goals that ensure compliance and build a safety culture that mitigates and manages risk for all Midstream Operations including environmental, health, safety and wellness related risks, opportunities, trends and assessment of performance. 

Position Location:  NJR Corporate Office in Wall, NJ; or in one of our other locations in Houston, TX; Pottstown PA; Taylorsville MS

Major Responsibilities:  

  • Oversee the implementation of existing environmental compliance programs and develop new environmental protection programs
  • Communicate environmental and air permits compliance requirements to operations personnel; ensure related training programs are in place
  • Conduct internal audits and assessment of environmental, health, safety and wellness compliance programs; identify and implement changes to correct deficiencies, improve programs ensure compliance
  • Provide sustainable solutions and deploy resources to address complex challenges, while ensuring that safe work practices are followed; the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations
  • Liaise with federal, state, county and municipal agencies to ensure compliance programs are completed accurately and on time
  • Review, evaluate and analyze work environments; design programs and procedures to control, eliminate and prevent disease and injury
  • Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety laws and regulations, company policies and procedures - including inspection, audit, training and consulting activities
  • Promote a strong safety and compliance culture throughout the company
  • Partner with other Safety and Midstream team members, and various business units to ensure the compliance and success of new projects and existing operations

 

Position Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
  • A minimum of ten years of work experience in a similar EHS position
  • Certifications in HAZWOPER, Certified Pipeline construction experience, OSHA 30 hour, competent person (excavation) from an accredited learning organization, First Aid/CPR training are preferred
  • Accident and incident investigation experience is required
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, developing and leading a team of technical SMEs, generalist EHS professionals, service providers, consultants and contractors
  • Experience developing and implementing effective strategies with a focus on EHS services and programs
  • Ability to balance risk with practical business needs for speed and simplicity
  • Skilled at seeing opportunities in challenges; track record of being resilient and adaptable in navigating organizational resistance and influencing others to adopt new behaviors and approaches
  • Able to effectively analyze data and translate into high-impact learnings and recommendations
  • Experience managing efficient operations, effective business process and metrics-driven alignment to achieve goals
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting
  • Must be able to travel as needed. The position requires the ability to work in all types of weather conditions when in the field, as well as climb and work in areas of limited space. Must be able to respond to emergency conditions when called. Must be willing to work overtime, various shifts and be on call 24 hours a day.
