Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Primary Purpose: 

The environmental, health and safety ("EHS") Manager will develop and execute EHS programs for Sempra Energy Corporate Center and help lead enterprise-wide EHS projects as needed. The EHS Manager will promote a safe workplace for employees, and ensure compliance with applicable environmental and safety regulations, by developing and maintaining a comprehensive EHS program, tools, training and materials for Sempra Energy Corporate Center.

The EHS Manager will partner with relevant stakeholders to implement EHS policies, procedures and best practices, and will be responsible for EHS metrics reporting and validation. The EHS Manager will help coordinate EHS compliance activities and initiatives with EHS functions at each of the Sempra Energy operating companies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
  • Ensure that Sempra Energy Corporate Center EHS programs meet all federal, state and local regulatory, reporting, permitting and licensing requirements, in addition to internal policy requirements.
  • Be responsible for ongoing compliance with EHS regulations, safety standards and environmental management practices at Sempra Energy headquarters.
  • Manage Sempra Energy Corporate Center regulatory agency inspections, inquiries, contacts and reporting in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee regular Sempra Energy Corporate Center EHS assessments, inspections and safety checks and coordinate scope, completion and follow-up with the appropriate teams.
  • Establish mechanisms to periodically review policies, programs, and metrics to ensure alignment of EHS strategies with business needs.
  • Develop and assist with implementation of EHS trainings, programs, standards, policies, procedures and best practice techniques, cost effectively and efficiently.
  • Oversee provision of timely EHS awareness and compliance training programs as appropriate to all levels of operations and management.
  • Develop and support a network of enterprise-wide contacts charged with overseeing and implementing EHS programs and requirements (e.g., Health and Safety working teams, councils and/or committees; safety and environmental champions, emergency coordinators, etc.)
  • Assist with investigation of injuries/illnesses, near-misses and environmental incidents and provide support for corrective action plans.
  • Manage and track injury and illness data and environmental metrics.



  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to speak fluent Spanish is a plus.
