Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Job Description:
Brooklyn Park, MN - The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will maintain OSTA Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove’s Health and Safety programs to ensure a safe workplace and compliance with federal, state and local regulations. The incumbent will assist all departments in compliance of policies and procedures and oversee hazard identification and mitigation activities. He/She will serve as the principal source of information on Health and safety issues by developing and implementing procedures and trainings that effectively control physical and health exposures. The incumbent will ensure environmental compliance (federal ,state, local).

Job Duties:

  • Ensure Health and Safety policies and procedures are accurate and implemented per Minnesota A Workplace Accident and Injury Reduction (AWAIR) program.
  • Ensure through audits and inspections that the Health and Safety policies and procedures are implemented correctly.
  • Assist in repetitive motion injury mitigation through ergonomics training, assessment, and determining corrective actions.
  • Investigate all safety related incidents, review incident reports, and complete necessary corrective action reports.
  • Lead and ensure training for Emergency Response Teams.
  • Lead the Safety and Environmental committee by communicating injury metrics, near misses, and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Work with management to ensure that corrective actions identified for hazards are adequately approved and implemented.
  • Oversee recordkeeping of safety training, audits, Lockout Tagout procedures, and hazed assessments to ensure compliance with MN OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee environmental and powered industrial vehicles licensure to ensure compliance with federal and local agencies.
  • Manage chemical storage and waste including applicable licensure, inventory, training, and retention of Safety Data Sheets.
  • Review IQ/OQ for Health and Safety concerns and provide approval before implementation of any new equipment.
  • Conduct and provide safety training for employees including but not limited to: new employees, Emergency Response Teams, CPR/AED, LOTO ,Chemical handling, laser safety, radiation safety, contractor safety, Hazard communication, Blood Borne Pathogen, contractor safety, Personal protective equipment, toolbox talks, etc.
  • Interact with outside vendors and agencies for audits, inspections, and services as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of all safety supplies and order as needed.
  • Perform job safety hazard analysis (JSA’S) and leads site program.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
     

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience is required; or equivalent education and experience is required.
  • Ability to use of tools and equipment manuals is essential.
  • Experience in a medical device manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of inventory control, production control and quality training is necessary. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work flow is preferred.
  • Well developed skills in decision making and problem solving are desired.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook is essential.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions is necessary.
  • Ability to understand and perform Safety preventative maintenance on all manufacturing equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals is essential. 
  • Must be able to work from heights.
