JOB SUMMARY:
The Environmental Manager provides leadership to the Dover Chemical Plants located in Dover, Ohio and Hammond, IN regarding regulatory compliance, environmental permits, inspections and other regulatory matters.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee environmental programs, plans and procedures for compliance with federal and state regulatory and permit requirements;
  • Prepare and ensure timely submission of environmental reports to government;
  • Provide direct supervision for the Environmental Coordinator in performance of their duties;
  • Ensure inspection, monitoring, measurement, analytical testing, and recordkeeping requirements for environmental permits including air, storm water, process wastewater, remediation and hazardous waste are completed as required;
  • Manage the Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program and associated regulatory reporting;
  • Interface with governmental regulatory agencies for environmental compliance and enforcement inspections;
  • Participate in internal EHS compliance audits and inspections for environmental permits;
  • Analyze environmental performance metrics, prepare reports, and make recommendations to senior management;
  • Oversee remediation efforts for the site

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field – Chemical Engineering is preferred;
  • Minimum 8 years industrial experience – Chemical manufacturing experience preferred;
  • Minimum 5 years of environmental permitting experience – Air permitting experience is preferred;
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations including air, water, remediation and hazardous waste;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Effective writing skills
  • Computer skills a must, with knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
  • Some travel will be required.
     

ACCOUNTABLILITIES:

  • Lead facility compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations and standards.
  • Assess the impact of regulatory changes that affect operations to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare and submit required environmental reports.
  • Be an active part of the EHS team at the site.
  • Interact with federal, state and local regulatory agencies.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for the Environmental Coordinator position.
  • Drive the environmental requirements of Responsible Care Management.
  • Support compliance with Process Safety Management 
  • Generate and develop visible and relevant environmental metrics
  • Participate in monthly safety committee meetings and support action items related to environmental deficiencies.
  • Manage and support the implementation of environmental training in the plant when necessary.
  • Assist operations and maintenance in achieving environmental objectives to prevent pollution through on-going improvement programs that reduce the impact of our operations on the environment
  • Ensure incident investigations involving releases are completed and develop aid in development of an action plan to prevent reoccurrence.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The person performing the duties of this job may spend approximately 50% of their time monitoring plant activities as described above with potential for exposure to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, noisy and dusty environment.  The other 50% of the time will be spent working out of an office performing accountabilities, handling project work, and planning devoted to environmental compliance. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to don proper PPE to examine equipment and have the mobility to move around the facility, surroundings, and equipment that may require considerable use of arms and legs such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, standing, stooping, ability to climb stairs and ladders, lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.  May also need to climb stairs/ladders to examine work that may be conducted in high, precarious elevations.
