Food Safety Manager

Our Opportunity:
The Food Safety Program Manager, reporting to the Director of Safety/Loss Prevention provides leadership, direction and day-to-day support to Chewy fulfillment centers and is critical to the success of the Chewy Food Safety Program.  This position will work directly with Operations, Safety, Facilities, Inventory Control and Vendor Compliance to build, implement and manage a world class food safety program. 

What you'll do:    

  • Identify, lead and facilitate broad based Food Safety program
  • Establish company-wide programs, policies and expectation for food safety initiatives
  • Monitor trends and emerging issues within the food safety field keeping Chewy on the leading edge of the food safety industry
  • Implement Good Manufacturing Practices that ensure Chewy’s FCs are in compliance with the FSMA
  • Develops and implements required food safety training for Managers and Team Members
  • Conducts food safety audits and works with FC leadership to close critical gaps and implement a comprehensive food safety program
  • Monitors weekly pest control visit reports and works with SLPMs to develop effective mitigation strategies for suspected infestations
  • Acts as the Chewy POC for the pest control vendor
  • Works with outside agencies such as the FDW, Department of Agriculture, state, county and local inspectors.
  • Travels to and works with FCs to execute food safety programs. Travel will be 75%.
  • Leads infestation response protocol
     

What you'll need: 

  • BA/BS in Food Safety, Food Science or related field
  • Background in Food Safety in a warehouse, distribution or fulfillment environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel
  • Skilled in critical thinking, problem solving, and conflict management
  • Strong communication/interpersonal skills
  • Ability to write policies, training and programs
  • Experience preparing for, handling and responding to, FDA, OSHA, USDA inspections
  • Thorough understanding of warehouse pest control practices
  • Five years of Food Safety experience in a warehouse, distribution or fulfillment environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and the Food Safety Modernization Act
