Process Safety Management (PSM) Training Specialist

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Organizes and conducts training and educational programs for personnel through formal classroom courses, one-on-one sessions, on the floor process specific activities and/or web-based training.
  • Participates in production processes, including cleaning and set-up.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of training content, training curricula, procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Performs administration and maintenance of MasterControl including creation and maintenance of training items, training offerings, training curricula and training assessments pertaining to GMPs, PSM, Production (process, chemical, equipment specific and unit operations) and SH&E (HazCom, SDS, chemical specific safety equipment).
  • Ensures that prepared training meets stated objectives, regulatory requirements and has appropriate content for Production and SH&E teams.
  • Develops “On the Job” Training, “Operator 101”, and tracks training effectiveness.
  • Requires flexibility to meet demanding production schedules and strict compliance/quality requirements.
  • Utilizing Operator and Engineers feedback, supports continuous improvement and process reliability through involvement in process improvement (Kaizen) teams.
  • Acquires and maintains knowledge general knowledge around Engineering, Chemistry, and Regulatory principles in order to deliver / design high quality training and effectively support the business and its growth.
  • Coordinates planning, organization, and implementation of training related projects and initiatives with target specified objectives.
  • Additional focus to provide guidance and technical knowledge to more junior staff. 


Essential Functions:

  • Designs and/or conducts site training program to meet compliance goals, meet development needs, and support operational excellence initiatives in the Production & SH&E departments.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers high quality and high impact learning products, programs, and services.
  • Works on projects that are cross-functional in nature and that support the SH&E, Operations, Quality and Compliance organizations.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on best practices and state of the art training delivery methodologies, curriculum development, etc. to facilitate a “train the trainer” program.
  • Use a “needs assessment tool” to determine effectiveness of training programs.
  • Interacts with functional organizations to develop specifications for course content.
  • Prepares and schedules training session plans including the method, media, and documentation to be presented.
  • Leads group training sessions. Conducts follow up to determine suitability of course material.
  • Partners with functional leaders, and internal stakeholders to ensure the learning strategy is converted to tactical training deliverables.
  • Ensures tracking of training and development records are compliant with applicable regulations (GMPs, OSHA, CalARP, and SH&E).
  • Create mechanism to evaluate the effectiveness of trainings, implementing modifications, when necessary, and monitoring training compliance.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Demonstrates understanding of training and instructional design.
  • Demonstrates presentation skills with the ability to conduct training sessions.
  • Demonstrates functional and process knowledge to support the integrated design and development of training programs.
  • Experience in setting up and managing on the floor training.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven organizational skills, planning skills, and ability to work effectively within teams.
  • Collaborative with a customer service mindset.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • BS or BA degree or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrates ability to lead cross-functional project teams pertaining to training.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of PSM, chemical manufacturing, quality assurance, packaging processes and product transfer.
  • Prior experience working in a GMP environment.
  • Prior experience in chemical manufacturing industry is preferred.
