Safety Coordinator

At American Zinc Recycling, safety is our number one priority. As our Safety Coordinator, it will be your job to help maintain high standards of safety for our plant of 100 employees.

The ideal candidate knows all about regulations and how to keep compliant. You’re calm and level-headed, especially if an emergency should occur. As a technical expert, you’re always on the lookout for potential hazards and ready to implement corrective action—and able to explain technical info to non-technical people.

While you will report to the Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager, you’ll be interacting with many faces across the plant. You’ll truly have the ability to make an impact site-wide as you look to keeping our whole crew safe.


  • Partner with operations, maintenance and laboratory personnel (line management) to support their understanding and application of our safety systems, culture and values
  • Participate in the development and implementation of site-wide safety programs
  • Provide technical expertise and consulting on hazard recognition and control, risk management and behavioral modification to management, supervisors, and employees
  • Perform safety audits, inspections, and evaluations to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Analyze incident and hazard identification reports for trends; make recommendation for correcting unsafe conditions and actions and assist with implementation
  • Conduct incident investigations, including root cause analysis; support line management with developing corrective actions communicating the results.
  • Provide specialty safety services and assessments addressing requirements that include ergonomics and industrial hygiene
  • Investigate complaints and reports of unsafe or unhealthful working conditions; provide recommendations for abatement action; and verify completion of abatement action
  • Promote plant “Zero Harm Safety Culture” by supporting safety initiatives
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline, either safety, hygiene, or science-based
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills in Excel and Powerpoint, plus other office suite products
  • Skill in performing safety inspections, ensuring compliance with OSHA safety standards
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures
  • Skill in developing, implementing, and enforcing safety programs, procedures and protocols
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
