CTE, a major supplier of Caterpillar heavy construction equipment, power generation equipment, and material handling trucks headquartered in Charlotte, NC, with 20+ branches throughout NC, SC, GA, AL, TN is looking for a Director of Environmental, Health & Safety. CTE is looking for a qualified individual to provide support related to safety, workers compensation claims, environmental, MSHA, and DOT driver compliance.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Create a culture of Continuous Improvement in regards to safety within the company, including creating efficiencies in how we support the customer by utilizing existing technologies and implementing new technologies and process.
  • Champion Safety as a “way of how we work” and builds this into the overall culture of the team.
  • Responsible for current safety and environmental programs and policies, and lead the implementation of new programs and policies as required for the company.
  • Conduct or coordinate employee training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and the use of safety equipment. Provide or coordinate all OSHA/MSHA required yearly safety training.
  • Investigate recordable and near-miss accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes and preventive measures. Report findings to company and division management in written format.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret data related to occupational accidents and illnesses. Report figures on a monthly basis to employees and management.
  • Represent company at the annual Caterpillar safety & Environmental conference along with the other 52 dealers.
  • Research federal, state, and local standards and regulations for compliance. Advise management and employees of non-compliance.
  • Inspect facilities, tooling/machinery, and safety equipment on a routine basis in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Manage workers compensation claims and return to work programs.
  • Conduct environmental testing for water quality, water runoff, and air permitting as required by local, state, or federal laws.
  • Assist Fleet Manager with safety issues and inspections related to service vehicles. 
     

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has supervisory responsibilities. 

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Prefer candidate with Bachelor’s degree, or candidate with 7 to 10 years experience in the field of safety, environmental, and OSHA compliance.
  • CSP and/or ASP preferred.
  • Requires excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Prefer past safety management experience in a mechanical service, industrial, or manufacturing type environment.
  • Experience with leading and implementing behavior based safety programs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA laws and regulations as related to 29CFR 1910 or 1926. Knowledge of MSHA 30 CFR a plus, but not required.
  • Ability and knowledge to investigate industrial accidents and injuries, and determine the root cause and prevention measures.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and suggest the appropriate action when working with employees, management, or customers.
  • Ability to utilize with proficiency – Outlook email, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of workers compensation laws and regulations and return to duty programs
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Research and analysis skills of existing and potential technologies for continuous improvement
