Safety Specialist

Job Description
The Safety and Health Specialist role supports the development and administration of Swiss Krono’s Safety and Health Systems for the Barnwell S.C. Plant.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
The physical criteria for many of the tasks in this job description require the ability to walk a large plant site and climb stairs and ladders to tall towers and buildings.

  • Monitor current and evolving Health and Safety regulations along with additional company requirements.
  • Manage Safety Data Sheet (SDS) online program, review all new SDS for acceptance.
  • Coordinate the Respiratory Protection Program, including Respirator Fit-Testing.
  • Conduct Noise Surveys and identify those in the Hearing Conservation Program.
  • Conduct Area Safety Audits in compliance with OSHA, NFPA and NIOSH.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Risk Assessments
  • Work closely with ESH Manager and Plant Manager to develop, implement and measure success of safety programs.
  • Review/Revise safety and health procedures annually or as needed.
  • Lead/participate in safety audits/inspections of facilities and drive the support for corrective actions.
  • Maintain web based S&H training and annual assignments for site personnel.
  • Lead/participate in on-site incident investigations and root cause analysis and drive the support for corrective actions.
  • Compile, analyze and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents.
  • Conduct New Employee Safety Orientations.
  • Coordinate and maintain all Industrial Hygiene personnel sampling equipment and required record keeping.
  • Lead and/or participate in Process Hazards Analysis activities and participate in technical review of process changes as   necessary.
  • Support emergency response activities through the development of required drills and coordination of annual training.
  • Support Emergency Response Team activities.

  • Detailed, proactive, self-starter with good communication skills

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in an appropriate technical discipline, preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Safety & Health (Operational Occupational Health or Safety roles  
  • Ability to understand Federal and State Safety and Health regulations.
  • Industry training or certification completion in health and safety related matters  
  • PSM, PSM, HAZOP, and PHA experience is a plus.
  • Behavioral Based Safety experience is a plus
